The fashion capital and one of the richest cities in the Middle East, Dubai is one of the top fastest growing metropolitan cities in the world. Home to the world’s tallest building Burj Khalifa and manmade archipelago Palm Jumeirah, there is no stopping Dubai. This once dry and barren desert-land has become highly modernised on such a large scale, yet still retaining its Arabic culture and tradition.
United Arab Emirates is first on the list on our 3-stop honeymoon followed by the Philippines and Hong Kong. We stayed at The Oberoi located in Dubai’s Business Bay and this was our home for three amazing nights.
Getting to the hotel
Arriving at 3 in the morning from a 7-hour flight followed by an hour drive from Abu Dhabi Airport to Dubai isn't the best way to begin a holiday. Yet when we arrived at The Oberoi in the wee hours of the night, we were cheerfully greeted by the staff and escorted to the Reception. One of the things we admired about The Oberoi is their genuine and impeccable service.
With our heavy bags finally off our shoulders, we were taken to our room on the 18th floor. As soon as we opened the door, we were completely surprised.
Our room and the honeymoon treats!
We stayed at a Deluxe City View Room for two nights. The space was surprisingly large with a living area and an office desk considering its more affordable rate. With wooden floors and a playful touch of red accentuating the interiors, the room emanates contemporary elegance. But what made our room stand out is the way it was set up for a honeymoon couple. Let’s get down to the juicy details!
As we entered the room, there was a living area with a comfy couch and plush pillows. On the coffee table was a beautiful spread: a bottle of cabernet, white flowers, chocolate cake, sweets, and chocolate squares that had our pictures on them. We were spoiled!
Our kingsize bed was filled with so many balloons and two swan towels sat in the middle. On both sides of the bed were our his and hers slippers ready to be worn.
Onwards to the bathroom was a storage area where we kept our luggage. The Italian marble bathroom was massive with double sinks, and the toilet separated from the rain showers by glass panels. The standalone tub was already made - a hot bubble bath with rose petals awaited us. What more could we ask for? At 3 in the morning, we received a special room turndown and we have a bubble bath ready to crash into!
Walking back to our room we actually missed that there was a picture frame of myself and Dexter (from a John Williams tribute concert in London!) hung on the wall by the bed. It. Was. Insane. Imagine myself and Dexter at 3-ish in the morning, giggling all over the place, our tiredness and jet lag wiped away. It was this first impression of the hotel that somehow stuck with us and immediately set the tone of our first night (or morning) in the city.
Our room is also equipped with a 24-hour personal butler. Yes. There’s a Butler button on our room’s handyphone that says Butler. Note that it’s the only dial that’s in red, so it means you gotta gotta gotta press it!
On our third night at The Oberoi we moved to a Deluxe Suite with Private Balcony, soon in our blog!
Dining at The Oberoi
Aside from the comforts of a 5-star hotel, the five restaurants and lounges at The Oberoi offer a great selection. Our inclusive complimentary breakfast at Nine7One serves Arabic, Asian, and Western cuisine. Guests can choose to dine inside the restaurant or al fresco in the private courtyard.
For late night drinks and upbeat music, a more fashionable setting is on the 27th floor of The Oberoi where Iris is located. An open-air bar and restaurant where the nightlife’s at, there is also a view of the city and Burj Khalifa from up here.
A quieter, more demure daddy option is The Lobby Bar. I call it daddy because we had whiskey here and it made me feel so old. It was rather nice to be drinking in a calm lounge where you can hear yourself talk.
The Oberoi Spa
The Oberoi’s wellness floor has a private steam bath, therapy rooms, 24-hour gym, and an outdoor pool. Thankfully we had the luxury to spend time here.
World class service
Our stay at The Oberoi made us think of what excellent quality service is about. The hotel staff were not only friendly and willing to help, they go an extra mile for their guests to feel special and enjoy a hassle-free hotel experience. We had the incident of losing an important item in the airplane and we asked Concierge if they can contact the airline to locate our belongings. Immediately the next morning, the item was already at the Reception! They had it picked up from Abu Dhabi Airport! For honeymooners and travelers looking for unparalleled luxury and a romantically unique experience, The Oberoi in Dubai is the hotel you need.
