It’s always hard to believe when another year is coming to pass. This year we visited 8 countries and 3 continents. This being our first year of marriage made all our holidays very special. Not only that, this being our first year in travel blogging pushed us to be more creative, observant, and document as much as we can while traveling.
So here’s a list of our travels of 2016 and how we made beautiful memories in every destination making them honeymoon-worthy!
What better way to begin this list than with the City of Love? Perhaps it’s the sexyness in how the French speak (oh yes!), but walking along the River Seine or a picnic with a bottle of champagne at Tuileries Garden is oh-so-romantic. With so many museums, art galleries, gardens and parks, iconic buildings and landmarks, food markets and shops, one can never go wrong in Paris. Honeymooners will enjoy the city whether it’s just for three nights or two weeks.
The capital of Sweden, Stockholm is a small city made of 14 islands. Here a traveling couple can enjoy Stockholm’s museums, food culture (not your average Ikea meatballs!), and take romantic strolls around Gamla Stan, the city’s Old Town. Being the second-largest archipelago in the Baltic Sea, ferryboat rides are a sweet way to explore the different islands as well.
Barcelona is one of the European cities that come as a complete honeymoon package. With many luxury hotels and resort villas, even honeymooners who are on a budget can find affordable accommodations in the city. Barcelona isn’t just for the art and architecture lovers, the sandy beaches offer the perfect way to bask under the Mediterranean sun. Full of life and culture, honeymooners will enjoy romantic dinners of tapas and sangrias!
Milan is undoubtedly a city where high fashion and culture intertwine. Whether it’s exploring Duomo di Milano with a gelato on one hand and a shopping bag on the other or an afternoon cocktail along Naviglio Grande Canal, couples will have a grand time exploring the chic and relaxing atmosphere in Milan.
For honeymooners who aren’t into frenzied cities and crowds, Wales is home to many national parks. Exploring the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park is best done on foot with your hiking boots on and full hiking gear up! We celebrated our first year anniversary staying at a barn conversion near St Davids. Yes, a honeymoon isn’t always about staying at a luxury hotel, it can be also that peace and quiet next to mother nature.
Dubai, United Arab Emirates
One of the fastest growing cities in the world, Dubai Dubai is a city like no other - on one end futuristic with its architectural masterpieces while on the other end preserving its long standing culture and Arabic roots. Couples can spend a laidback and at the same time adventurous honeymoon in Dubai. Here you will enjoy luxury shopping, dune bashing on a desert safari, see Palm Jumeirah and The World on a seaplane, or simply a romantic cocktail brunch overlooking Burj Khalifa. With many luxury hotels downtown or beach resorts along the coast, the possibilities on how to spend a holiday in Dubai are endless and absolutely stylish!
Ilocos Region, Philippines
Located north of the Philippines in the island of Luzon, the Ilocos Region is a slice of paradise for those seeking both adventure and serenity. Walk along the streets of Calle Crisologo in Vigan and find yourself transported to Spanish colonial times. For outdoor enthusiasts, Tanap Avis Falls is one of Ilocos Norte’s hidden gems. The local cuisine in Ilocos is a must to try as well!
Metro Manila, Philippines
An old metropolitan city heavily influenced by its former colonizers and neighbouring countries, Manila is a wonderful place to visit. With an array of new establishments, luxury hotels and resorts, and a food scene both local and Western, this city has so much to offer. Honeymooners can enjoy the hip and trendy Bonifacio Global City in Taguig or the more local traditional markets and tiangge in Binondo, Manila. An hour or two by plane, Manila is your base if you plan to see other parts of the country such as Boracay, Cebu, or Palawan.
Ah, the city many foodies fall in love with! But apart from the amazing food culture in Hong Kong, it’s A city that’s unbelievably diverse and always changing, Hong Kong can tick off what’s in your honeymoon checklist. Whether it’s 5-star hotels or affordable bed and breakfasts, cheap eats of street food or fine dining, hiking the scenic Dragon’s Back in Chai Wan or night market shopping in Yau Ma Tei, you and your other half will get the best of both worlds in Hong Kong.
Looks like there’s another city we left out…
Of course, London! There’s no place like home! But for couples looking into honeymooning in London - there’s so, so much to do. You can spend lazy mornings in Hyde Park, visit museums and art galleries in Kensington, indulge in street food and art in Camden or Shoreditch, or spend an afternoon to explore the famous Notting Hill. For a more romantic setting, an afternoon tea by River Thames overlooking the Houses of Parliament or a late night dinner at Duck and Waffle are a one of a kind experience!
