Choosing a honeymoon getaway is one of the very first things my husband Dexter arranged as soon as we got engaged. While I was on a roll researching flowers, palettes, and my bridal gown, Dexter got himself busy researching honeymoon destinations.
Our options at the time were Cancun, Cabo, St Lucia, Hawaii, Maldives. The idea was a fun, relaxing stay by the beach, no strict itinerary, no fussing about. We wanted the traditional honeymoon, as some may call it, relaxed and convenient.
We considered packages offered by tour companies but ended up booking everything on our own. In the end it was a match between Cancun and St Lucia. Cancun won the battle for the following reasons: reasonable flight times from LA to Cancun and Cancun to London, it fit our criteria of a beach honeymoon, it was within our budget, and I suppose one can never go wrong with the Caribbean Coast.
At the mention of Cancun, some travelers picture all-night partying and Spring Break. Our honeymoon was on October, hurricane season, this means skipping the summer crowd and party-goers. We spent 6 nights (3 days of rain and 4 days of sun) at Hyatt Zilara located at Cancun’s hotel zone called ‘Zona Hotelera’ along Boulevard Kukulcan.
I was pleased with our decision to go for Cancun and even happier that Dexter planned our honeymoon. Wedding planning can be stressful and a good team of two minds is what makes it work.
Next on our Cancun Series, we'll show you our hotel and our honeymoon suite!
