Located right on Postdamer Platz, Grand Hyatt Berlin is the first Grand Hyatt in Europe. This five-star hotel features 342 guestrooms, renowned restaurants and bars, a relaxing pool and spa, and a stunning rooftop with views of the Berlin skyline. Sounds great, right?
Our three-night stay at the Grand Hyatt Berlin was pure relaxation and pampering with a touch of romance.
Staying at the Grand Hyatt Berlin meant staying central. The Sony Center, Mall of Berlin, Tiergarten Park, and Berlin Philharmonic were right at our doorstep. To Checkpoint Charlie and the Brandenburg Gate was a 20-minute walk. It was the most convenient location!
Our View King Room is situated on the fifth floor. With a spacious living area and a king bed, the room was just the right size for a couple. The floor-to-ceiling windows brought in plenty natural light which we just loved.
We almost missed the minibar as it was craftily positioned at the side of the wooden wall by the bathroom slide. There was a kettle too which I liked since I always make coffee first thing in the morning.
I have grown a liking to Hyatt bathrooms and Berlin definitely makes it to our list! I particularly liked that the bathtub was right next to the rain shower. And yes, the tub is big enough for two!
The bathroom also comes with a small telly, a weighing scale, volume controls, and a vanity mirror.
The honeymoon treats
Since we are traveling a la honeymoon, Grand Hyatt Berlin welcomed us with the most amazing surprise ever!
A bottle of champagne, bowl of fruits, fresh smoothies in glass flutes, and a massive chocolate tray all in this beautifully arranged spread! The handwritten cards wishing us a happy stay and a happier honeymoon added a personal touch.
Isn’t this the kind of surprise welcome anyone would want on a special occasion? Thank you Hyatt for setting this up for us!
Club Olympus Spa
Situated on the 8th floor, the Club Olympus Spa features an indoor pool, fitness centre, wellness spa, and an outdoor terrace. We enjoyed our time in the sauna after a long day of walking. The hot whirlpool bath with a fantastic view of the city was was a much-needed relax!
Dinner at Vox Restaurant
One of the highlights of our Berlin trip was the 7-course meal at Vox. A sushi bar and international cuisine, Vox is one of the top fine dining restaurants in the city.
Because love is in the air we were offered the Love Corner or ‘Ulrike Lauber’ for a more private, intimate setting.
As soon as we sat down, we were given warm bread along with small pots of crystalline salt and herb cream sauce. We were told that the menu for the evening was a very special one since we were celebrating. The build up was nerve wracking.
We started with cocktails freshly prepared and selected for us. Dexter got the Smokey Bologna, which was a take on the negroni; while I had a Cherry Hendrix, their version of mai tai. Both were refreshingly delicious! Little did they know how much we love cocktails!
We did not have to look at the menu to order since the whole dinner was already planned for us. To begin we had the roast beef with mustard, mashed potato, baked onions, and cucumber salad. It was the tiniest dish ever yet so rich and flavourful. Our favourite among the starters was the pond trout, potato, avocado, and escabeche. It was a delightful combination.
The main dish was suckling lamb, merguez, chickpea, and pointed bell pepper. It was so delicious and so creative. The meat was cooked to perfection without a doubt. We ended the evening with an inventive dessert of apricot, basil, pine nuts, and cream cheese.
Vox turned out to be everything we had hoped it to be. The whole experience made us feel like VIPs tucked away in our own corner, our Love Corner, while at the same time sampling dishes in one of Berlin’s best restaurants. It’s definitely the perfect spot for celebrating couples, proposals, and such special occasions.
Vox Bar and Jamboree
Adjacent the restaurant is Vox Bar that serves premium cocktails and wide selection of whiskey.
If you aren't a whiskey person, next door is a vintage cocktail lounge called Jamboree. With its colourful comfy couches and funky industrial design, it's a stylish way to enjoy your drink with a hint of the 80's.
The overall experience
Our experience at the Grand Hyatt Berlin was beyond our expectations. For a luxury hotel where ‘contemporary art meets modern architecture’, its character is timeless and its style absolutely charming. The dedicated staff were pleasant and eager to please. Upon knowing we were celebrating something special, we were immediately told to not miss the swimming pool and the spa. Small details like this beget excellent customer service. For honeymooners looking for a hotel to celebrate with them and for travelers who simply want a relaxed yet elegant hotel experience, Grand Hyatt Berlin is the luxury you're looking for.
