Elite Hotel Marina Tower Review: A Grand Seafront Hotel in Stockholm

Tucked away from the fast paced hustle and bustle of Central Stockholm, the Elite Hotel Marina Tower is seemingly a brick fortress overlooking the Baltic Sea and neighboring islands of Djurgården and Waldemarsudde. This was our home for 3 days where we excitedly spent a long weekend on our first Scandinavian holiday.

Getting to the hotel

Arriving from a 2-hour BA flight from London, we took the commuter train from Arlanda (ARN) Airport to Central Stockholm. Purchasing the 72-hour travel card comes with an additional fee of 85 Swedish Krona to travel from the airport to the city.

From Central Stockholm Station en route to our hotel, we traversed through the city’s eccentric geography of islands and bridges. The 20-minute bus ride was like flashing a “Welcome to Stockholm!” banner to us after briefly catching a glimpse of downtown and old town. Bus 53 dropped us off 3 minutes away from the rear entrance of Elite Hotel Marina Tower.

The Suite

Situated on the 5th floor, our king suite was incredibly spacious! Tastefully furnished with shades of reds and browns, the bedroom playfully captures a distinct style: simple and modern.

The bathroom had a full size bath tub, rain showers, with premium hair care and body products by FACE Stockholm.

Our wardrobe had enough storage space, including his and hers robes and slippers, an iron and ironing board, a safe box, and some shoe shine kits that Dexter immediately used. We also had an office desk and below the telly was our minibar.

A door led us to the living area in a separate room. Also spacious, the living room had a dining table that could seat 6 and a huge couch perfect for large parties. On the dining table was a box of chocolates, red roses, and a bottle of champagne that I assume Dexter had in mind to surprise me on our honeymoon! (Yeah it kinda worked!)

The suite’s atmosphere made us feel at home and to be honest, we spent most of the time in our room rather than the city!

The View

What made the suite stood out was the view. From the windows you can see the hotel front, which is the marina, where cruise ships and ferry boats pass by every few minutes! There was also a remarkable view of nearby islands and the iconic style of Swedish homes in various shapes and colours. It was so beautiful and welcoming.

We loved staying in the living room where we would make our coffee every morning (thank you, Nespresso machine!) and not ever be tired of watching boats sail along the Baltic Sea. The wide windowsills were where Dexter and I would sit and talk, and even do a little bit of work. I never thought that work could be more productive when you have an impressive view outside your window.

Mind you, it snowed multiple times during our stay too!

“It was like having our own private boat!”

the view from our living room. yes, that's our ride!

The hotel is located in a quiet residential area, away from the busy streets and alleys of the Old Town (20 minutes to Gamla Stan by bus) and the city. We initially thought commuting would be a hassle, but it was quite the opposite! The bus stop 3 minutes away from the hotel took us to areas downtown; and there was also a ferry dock at the hotel front where boats sail to nearby islands, even quicker than taking the bus. It was like having our own private boat!

Dining at the Elite Hotel Marina Tower

Opposite the front desk was the bar and a lounge area. Guests frequented this spot to relax and catch up with a pint. The restaurant was rather sizeable, too! The complimentary breakfast buffet had a wide selection and also quickly topped up. American options of waffle and bacon are of course available, then there’s your local selections of pickled herring and rye bread!

Considering that our trip to Sweden was unplanned and sudden, staying at the Elite Hotel Marina Tower was the perfect choice. Service was excellent and swift, public transport was accessible, and our suite had such unforgettable views that honeymooners will fall in love with. Dexter and I repeatedly said that our hotel standards have gone up high!

Another highlight of this hotel is their spa. Watch out for it on our next blog post!
